Toronto Fire says the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of a fire and explosion at a downtown home early this morning.

About nine trucks and 35 firefighters were called to two-alarm fire at 79 Markham St., near Bathurst and Dundas streets, shortly before midnight and crews quickly extinguished the blaze.

Toronto Fire Capt. Adrian Ratushniak said crews found evidence of an explosion but officials are unsure what caused the blast. The explosion, according to Peter Hamilton, a fire investigator with the OFM, displaced walls on the second floor of the building.

No one was injured and no one was inside the home at the time of the fire, officials say.

Ratushniak said this latest incident is the third time in the last five months that fire crews have been called to the home after "arson-related" activities.

The Office of the Fire Marshal is currently doing an on-scene investigation. They say they have not determined whether the fire is suspicious at this time.
