A fire that broke out in the basement of a Brampton home Thursday afternoon prompted several local evacuations in the Williams Parkway and Dixie Road area.

Peel police say they got a call about the fire at around 3:45 p.m.

An aerial view of the scene at 5 p.m. showed heavy smoke billowing from the home on Crescent Hill Drive North with some flames still visible.

Homes behind and to either side of the flame-engulfed house were also evacuated as a precaution.

Everyone inside the home got out safely, police said.

“There are no injuries to any party,” Peel police Const. Lillian Fitzpatrick told CP24.

Fitzpatrick said a total of four homes had been evacuated as a precaution.

“There may be other evacuations depending on the smoke,” she said.

Traffic was closed off on Crescent Hill Drive North as firefighters battled the blaze.

It’s not yet clear what caused the fire.
