Former deputy police chief Peter Sloly has taken a position as an executive director with consulting firm Deloitte Canada, the company announced Thursday.

In a news release, Deloitte said Sloly will advise the firm on projects relating to the company’s risk and forensic practices, using his experience in cyber risk, security and social media.

“As an authority on topics like diversity and inclusion, he will also work in an advisory capacity to the firm,” the news release from the company reads.

In the written statement, Ryan Brain, the regional managing partner for Deloitte in Toronto, said the former Toronto cop is a “proven leader” and an “out-of-the-box thinker.”

“We're excited to bring him on board," Brain said.

“His impressive experience will serve our clients well, particularly as they face business challenges relating to cyber security, crisis response and digital media."

Sloly issued his own statement in the news release saying he is “proud to join Deloitte.”

"I've said I wouldn't pursue a job that didn't allow me to stay true to my values and community, be a thought leader asking the tough questions, or mentor younger generations,” he said.

“In Deloitte I have found a strong match, and I'm looking forward to the challenge ahead."

Sloly, who was passed over for the position of police chief last April, resigned from the force in February after making controversial comments about the service’s billion-dollar budget.

At the time, Sloly suggested that the police service needed to overhaul the system and could cut costs by eliminating hundreds of officers’ jobs.
