Four Long Branch schools were placed under hold and secure orders on Friday morning after two men were reportedly seen with a gun in the neighbourhood.

Const. Jenifferjit Sidhu tells CP24 that police were initially called to the area of Lake Shore Boulevard and 36th Street at around 10 a.m. after a member of the public reported seeing two men, one of who armed with a gun, walking westbound and then getting onto a bus.

After police received the initial report, Lanor Junior Middle School, St. Ambrose Catholic Elementary School, Sir Adam Beck Junior School and Christ the King Catholic School were all placed under hold and secures as a precaution.

Officers were then dispatched to the area to search buses and malls but they were unable to locate any suspects.

A short time late, though, police received a report that the suspects had been spotted in a backyard near Brown’s Line and Horner Avenue. Officers then canvassed that area and took one person into custody.

It is not clear whether police recovered a firearm. It is also not clear what, if any, charges the suspect will face.

Sidhu tells CP24 that police are continuing to look for the second suspect. The hold and secure orders were nonetheless lifted at noon.
