Four people have been taken to hospital after a vehicle smashed into a bridge near Scarbrough Town Centre Sunday evening.

It happened at McCowan Road and Progress Avenue at around 8:20 p.m.

A picture sent to CP24 from the scene showed a white vehicle crashed into a structure at the bridge.

Toronto police said five people were in the vehicle when it crashed. Four of them were taken to hospital to be assessed. Two people were taken to a trauma centre, while two others were taken to local hospitals, Toronto Paramedic Services said. Most of the injuries are believed to be minor, paramedics said.

It’s not clear what caused the vehicle to lose control.

Progress Avenue has been closed at McCowan Road as police investigate. The bridge is also closed, police said.
