Highway 401 will be fully closed to traffic in both directions overnight Saturday to allow crews to take down a bridge in Mississauga.

The Ministry of Transportation says the highway will be fully closed between Mavis Road and Mississauga Road/Erin Mills Parkway, starting at 11 p.m. Saturday.

Lanes on the highway will start reopening at 8 a.m. on Sunday and will be fully open by 10 a.m.

A detour has been marked and police will be present at various intersections to guide motorists.

During the closure, crews will demolish and remove the Second Line West Bridge.

The removal is part of a larger plan to expand a four kilometre stretch of Highway 401 from east of McLaughlin Road to east of the Credit River from six lanes to twelve between now and 2019.
