Toronto police say two people suffered non-life threatening injuries after assailants possibly armed with a machete and a knife attacked attendees of a reception at a hall in north Scarborough.

A staff sergeant from Toronto police 42 Division says that a reception ended at Markham Convention Centre, at 2901 Markham Road, between McNicoll and Turbina avenues overnight Friday. A high school semi-formal was occurring at the hall, police said.

When it finished, a fight broke out and two people were stabbed by unknown suspects possibly brandishing a machete and a knife. One was stabbed in the abdoment and the other was stabbed in the arm.

Police say the suspects were not part of the event.

Three people have been transported to local hospital for treatment.

Police say two people have been taken into custody for questioning and it is not clear if they are suspects.
