A 23-year-old man has died in hospital after an overnight stabbing in the Jane Street and Eglinton Avenue area.

It happened around 12:30 a.m. on Sandcliff Road.

The victim – identified as Russell Sahadeo, of Toronto – was at a park with his friends when they were approached by two other men, police said.

A fight broke out and one of the men stabbed Sahadeo.

Toronto Paramedic Services rushed him to hospital with life-threatening injuries. However police said early Sunday that said he had succumbed to his injuries.

Police said Sahadeo was cooperating before he died and the suspects may be known to police. Det. Sgt. Steve Ryan said only one person committed the stabbing, and he urged the second suspect present to reach out to police.

"It's advantageous for him to give us a call."

The suspects are described as two men in their early 20s, one Asian and one black. Further descriptions were not immediately available. Ryan said the two men fled in a dark blue, four door Honda, Toyota or Nissan.

"He was a good kid by all accounts, it was a just a senseless argument," Ryan said. "Over what we're not sure yet, but we'll find that out."

Anyone with information about the incident is being asked to contact Detective Sergeant Steve Ryan at 647-801-6813 or to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
