Police have issued a public safety alert after a man allegedly exposed himself to a 12-year-old girl near St. Michael’s College earlier this month.

It happened on St. Mary Street at around 3 p.m. on Aug. 9.

According to police, the girl was approached by a man who exposed himself to her. The girl then left the area but was followed by the man who again exposed himself.

A suspect was arrested earlier this week in connection with the case. Police are concerned there may be additional victims.

The suspect, identified as 50-year-old Toronto resident William Douglas Shorten, faces eight charges, including two counts of indecent exposure to a person under 16, invitation to sexual touching, and criminal harassment.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 1.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-7474 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
