A Toronto man has been charged following a fatal stabbing at an apartment building in the city’s east end Saturday morning.

Police were called to the building on Broadview Avenue near Dundas Street for reports of a loud fight at around 4 a.m.

Once they arrived, officers found a man without vital signs in one of the units. He was then pronounced dead at the scene.

In a release Saturday evening, police identified the victim as Kareem Francis, 33, of Toronto.

“We are looking for any information from anyone in the community who knows who this person may be or why he may have been here,” Det. Sgt. Graham Gibson told CP24 at the scene. “We believe people know him and it just a matter of speaking to them and trying to figure out a name.”

Gibson said police believe the man may have been visiting a friend in a building.

The motive for the stabbing remains unclear.

Lerone Marcano, 34, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the stabbing, police said Saturday night.

He is expected to make a court appearance on March 16.
