A 20-year-old Toronto man has been charged in connection with two armed robberies that took place inside the elevators of a pair of buildings in the Thorncliffe Park area in August.

The first incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. on Aug. 12.

According to police, a 33-year-old man was followed into the elevator at 53 Thorncliffe Park Dr. Once inside, the suspected pulled a kitchen knife and demanded the victim’s cellphone.

The second incident took place roughly two weeks later.

Police said a 21-year-old woman was similarly followed into an elevator at 27 Thorncliffe Park Dr. by an unknown man shortly after 2 p.m. on Aug. 28.

Again, the man produced a kitchen knife and demanded the woman hand over her cellphone, police said.

Injuries were not reported in either incident.

Police provided security camera images and a description of a suspect in a release earlier this month.

On Wednesday, police announced a suspect had been arrested in connection with the case.

Faiyaz Hafejee was arrested Monday. He faces seven charges, including assault with a weapon, two counts of carrying a concealed weapon, and two counts of robbery.

He was scheduled to appear in court yesterday.

Police believe there may be more victims.
