A man in his 20's is dead and the province's Special Investigations Unit is investigating after a shooting in North York Sunday evening, the SIU says.

The man was shot behind a Burger King Restaurant at the intersection of Keele Street and Wilson Avenue in North York around 9 p.m. after Toronto police went to the area to make an arrest.

He was then rushed by paramedics to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, where he was pronounced dead.

Police sealed off the area around the parking lot where the incident took place following the shooting.

The SIU said late Sunday night it had taken over the investigation into the incident.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency called in whenever police are involved in an incident that results in a death or serious injury.
