Ontario’s police watchdog is investigating a fatal shooting involving Halton Regional Police in Oakville.
The Special Investigations Unit says a 22-year-old man died after he was shot by police in a residential neighbourhood late Sunday night.
The shooting occurred when officers were called to a residence on Oak Springs Crescent, near Upper Middle Road, at about 10:45 p.m.
Police found the man in a vehicle a few doors down from the home. When the man exited the vehicle, there was "an interaction" and he was shot by police, the SIU said in a news release.
He was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead early Monday morning, the SIU said.
The watchdog investigates incidents involving police where there has been a serious injury, death or allegations of sexual assault.
Anyone who has information about the incident is asked to call the lead investigator at 416-622-1925 or 1-800-787-8529 ext. 1925.
