A man is recovering after he suffered burns to his arms during a two-alarm fire in a vacant building in Chinatown early Thursday morning.

Toronto police said the fire started in an apartment above a store on Spadina Avenue, between Baldwin and Nassau streets, shortly after 2 a.m.

Firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to neighbouring buildings, but part of the structure was gutted.

Southbound Spadina Avenue was closed between Dundas and College streets for a few hours.
