Police say they have found a missing eight-year-old child in Vaughan.

The boy was reported missing by his father who told police that the child's mother had disappeared with their son.

The father dropped off the child for a visit with his mother Sunday at 10 a.m. When the father called the woman to arrange to pick up the boy, the mother allegedly refused to cooperate.

Peel police tell CP24 both the boy and his mother were found safe in York Region though they refused to say exactly where in Vaughan they were found.

They were found hours after an Amber Alert was issued for the missing pair.

Authorities have not said if the woman will face any charges.
