Toronto police say a 34-year-old Mississauga woman faces several charges in connection with sexual assault allegations dating back to 2007 and 2008.

Police say the accused worked as a freelance dance instructor between Sept. 2007 and March 2008. She also owned her own studio, called “Studio 22” in Woodbridge.

While teaching at the Vince Parrell Dance Studio, located near Danforth Avenue and Main Street, police say the accused befriended a 12-year-old girl.

The accused allegedly sexually assaulted the girl. Police were first made aware of the allegation on Sept. 23.

Cheryl Thompson was charged with one count of sexual assault, one count of sexual interference and one count of sexual exploitation.

She continues to work as a dance instructor.

She is expected to appear in a courtroom at College Park on Nov. 5. Police believe there may be other victims who have not yet come forward.
