All northbound lanes on Highway 400 have reopened at Highway 89 south of Barrie after a series of collisions involving at least 40 vehicles.

The collisions occurred at around 9:30 a.m. amid heavy snowfall that resulted in poor visibility along the highway.

One of the collisions involved at least 15 vehicles, according to OPP Sgt. Dave Woodford.

The other collisions are all believed to involve multiple vehicles. The number and severity of injuries is not known.

Woodford said the conditions along Highway 400 continue to be "treacherous” and warned drivers to use caution.
