Nearly 2,000 pigs have been killed in a barn fire in Middlesex County, north of London, Ont.

The fire broke out at a barn in the 800 block of Parkhill Drive in North Middlesex at around 3 a.m., Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release.

The barn was destroyed in the fire, which was eventually put out by the North Middlesex Fire department.

It is not yet known how the fire started. The Office of the Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate the blaze.

The fire comes nearly two weeks after a barn fire near Cambridge, Ont. killed 43 race horses. Another barn fire in Mt. Forest on Jan. 15 killed 13 horses.
