WEATHER:

  • Overcast skies with a 60 per cent chance of showers this morning. Conditions will clear later this afternoon. Temperature is expected to hover around 25 C for most of the day.

EVENTS:

  • The Toronto Blue Jays play the third of a four-game series with the Boston Red Sox at the Rogers Centre, beginning at 7:07 p.m. R.A Dickey will take the mound for the Jays.
  • Toronto FC will play a friendly with England's Tottenham Hotspur FC at BMO Field, beginning at 7 p.m.. The game is TFC striker Jermain Defoe’s first against his former team.
  • The latest installment of TIFF in the Park will see the Oscar winning film ‘Searching for Sugar Man’ screened at David Pecaut Square at 9 p.m.
  • Taste of Jazz takes place at Woodbine Park as part of the Beaches International Jazz Festival. The event, which runs from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., will bring together 19 gourmet food trucks with Irene Torres and the Sugar Devils and the Toronto All-Star Big Band providing the music.

NEWS:

  • Reports of Rob Ford’s political demise may have been premature, according to a new poll. The telephone poll by Forum Research has found that the three main contenders in the mayoral race are in a statistical tie with Olivia Chow enjoying the support of 29 per cent of respondents while John Tory sits at 28 per cent and Ford comes in third with 27 per cent. Karen Stintz (five per cent) and David Soknacki (five per cent) rounded out the field.
  • A 28-year-old man is dead after a single-vehicle crash on the off ramp from the westbound lanes of Highway 401 to Keele Street, Ontario Provincial Police confirm.
  • The family of an 18-year-old man that was fatally shot by police on board a streetcar last year has filed an $8 million lawsuit alleging that the force used upon Sammy Yatim was “excessive,” “unreasonable” and “not justifiable by law,” according to a report in the Toronto Star. The paper says the lawsuit, which was was filed in February by Yatim’s mother and sister, names Police Chief Bill Blair, Const. James Forcillo, two unnamed officers and the Toronto Police Services Board as defendants.
