All occupants managed to escape safely after a small plane crashed and landed on its roof in a field north of Barrie Sunday afternoon.

The plane landed in a field near Highway 12 and Line 13 in Oro-Medonte Township, about 10 kilometres northwest of Orillia around 4:00 p.m, Ontario Provincial Police said.

According to OPP, the small, single-engine Cessna plane went down after experiencing engine failure and flipped over while landing.

The 59-year-old pilot and his two passengers were uninjured, police said.

The Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.
