Provincial police are investigating following a fatal plane crash north of Barrie Monday afternoon.

Police responded to a report of the crash at Huronia Regional Airport located in Tiny Township shortly before 2 p.m.

The lone occupant of the plane, a 69-year-old man, was in the process of landing his ultra-light aircraft at the south end of the airport when it crashed into the runway, police said.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The identity of the pilot has not been released pending a post-mortem examination and notification of next of kin.
