OWEN SOUND, Ont. -- Police in Owen Sound, Ont., have arrested a second suspect in connection with a series of destructive fires in the city early Monday.

A female was arrested on Tuesday afternoon but police have not yet released any information about her.

Insp. Vince Wurfel says they are looking for at least one more suspect.

A 17-year-old teen from nearby Chatsworth was arrested earlier and charged with 16 counts of arson endangering life and 5 counts of arson. He was denied bail on Tuesday morning and will appear in court through audio conference on Aug. 18.

Several homes and property, including a 10-unit townhouse complex, were either badly damaged or destroyed in the fires, which police chief Bill Sornberger has said were all acts of arson.

Most of the fires were reported around 4 a.m. Monday in the St. Mary's Hill area of the city.

Ten people -- mostly from the townhouse complex -- were treated in hospital for symptoms of smoke inhalation. The fires left 23 families homeless and six families were not insured.

The United Way of Bruce Grey, the Salvation Army, Red Cross and other agencies are assisting the victims.
