Peel Region Paramedics say a male pilot suffered serious injuries after the small plane he was flying crashed in a field near the Brampton Flying Club on Saturday evening.

Emergency crews were called to the Brampton Flying Club, on McLaughlin Road south of King Street in Caledon just before 5 p.m.

Ontario Provincial Police say the plane went down in a field and came to rest upside down, about 30 metres away from King Street, north of the flying club's south runway.

Paramedics originally said the pilot suffered minor injuries but then said he was re-routed to a hospital trauma centre in serious but stable condition. Caledon Deputy Fire Chief Darryl Bailey said the pilot was taken to Sunnybrook Hospital

The cause of the crash is not yet known.
