Peel Regional Police believe they have located the body of a man who went missing while swimming in a small urban lake in Brampton on Sunday night.

Const. George Tudos told CP24 that two men were walking along Professor’s Lake, south of Brampton Civic Hospital sometime before 8:30 p.m. Sunday night when they both decided to wade into the water.

One of the men went underwater and never resurfaced. The other man got out of the water and called 911. Tudos said neither man knew how to swim.

Family members of the man believed to have been pulled from the lake identified him Monday as 22-year-old Satvir Singh of Brampton.

Tudos said police searched the lake Sunday night until after midnight and continued on Monday with divers. Just after 8 a.m. Monday, a diver found a body underwater they believe to be the missing man.

An aunt of Singh's told CP24's Cam Woolley that he was "a very nice guy" and that he was always polite.

Swimming is not permitted in the area of the lake where the man went missing.

Const. Tudos said the body will be taken for a post-mortem examination.
