Toronto police are launching an eight-week enforcement campaign Monday to crack down on crime in the Chinatown area.

Project Blue Stallion is focusing on retail and vehicle thefts, graffiti, panhandling, public intoxication, the drug trade and other problems in the downtown district.

Police say they will have additional patrols in Chinatown, which they describe as “a very safe neighbourhood.”

As part of the project, police are speaking to businesses about crime-prevention strategies and auxiliary officers are reminding residents and visitors to lock their car doors and not to keep any valuables in their vehicles.

Project Blue Stallion is named after the Chinese Year of the Horse and it is similar to previous projects that have taken place over the past year, police said.
