Coun. Rob Ford has begun a second round of chemotherapy in hospital Thursday to shrink a tumour found on his bladder, his executive assistant says.

In an email, Ford’s executive assistant Dan Jacobs says the councillor will also undergo a third round of chemo sometime in mid-December.

Beyond that, Jacobs says Ford and his family “are still awaiting test results to determine what the next steps will be in his treatment plan.”

The former Toronto mayor underwent surgery to remove a malignant tumour in his abdominal area more than five months ago and appeared to be recovering. At the end of October, however, Ford confirmed that doctors had found a new growth on his bladder that would require more treatment.

Ford said previously he hoped he would not have to undergo more than two rounds of chemotherapy to overcome this latest tumour.
