Toronto city councillor and former mayor Rob Ford is under 24-hour medical supervision after a recent chemotherapy treatment did not work, a source tells CP24.

Ford’s family has been summoned to be by his side at Mt. Sinai Hospital, and doctors are working to determine if the 46-year-old is healthy enough to undergo more treatment.

Ford was admitted to Mt. Sinai Hospital in late February for continued treatment of several tumours located on his bladder.

He suffers from a soft tissue cancer known as pleomorphic liposarcoma.

A website set up to relay warm wishes to the councillor has already received 3,000 messages.

Coun. Giorgio Mammoliti said Ford "truly loves the people of Toronto and never shied away from his responsibilities even while being the target of the biggest smear campaign the world has ever seen."

"I hope that everyone who made his time a living hell while he was mayor will respect his family's wishes for privacy now and leave it to the family to make updates public as they deem appropriate." Mammoliti said.

Meanwhile, get better messages and warm wishes are pouring in for the man and his family on social media:
