The owner of popular local coffee chain Sam James Coffee Bar says he will be spending Christmas Eve closing down his beloved Ossington Avenue location after receiving an eviction notice from the building’s new owner earlier this year.

To notify his customers about the news, James posted a sign on the coffee shop’s door on Friday, where he made his dissatisfaction with the situation clear.

“I just thought everybody would want to know that we are moving and it is not because we want to,” James told CP24.com Saturday night.

Despite his best efforts to convince the new tenant to share the space, James said he will be tearing down the shop over the Christmas break and will continue to hunt for a new location.

“I would love to stay around here,” he added about a possible new home.

“So many of our customers here are everyday regulars.”

Finding a new spot in the neighbourhood won’t be an easy task, James admits, however he said he remains committed to reopening a fifth location.

Until then, those who need their Sam James Coffee Bar fix will have to head over to one of the other four shops around the city.
