The Jamaican Constabulary Force says a 14-year-old Scarborough boy who was shot and killed in Jamaica on Sunday was on vacation and was staying with his father’s family when the shooting occurred.

A statement released by Hunts Bay Police Sunday said the teen, who has been identified as Ricardo Williams, was found with gunshot wounds after residents in St. Andrew, an area near downtown Kingston, reported hearing “explosions” at around 1:50 a.m.

Williams was pronounced dead in hospital a short time later.

Police say the Scarborough teen lived in Canada with his father but his mother resided in Jamaica.

Omar James, of White Lane in Olympic Gardens, has been identified as a “person of interest” in the case.

In a statement issued late Sunday, Canada’s department of Foreign Affairs expressed condolences for Williams’ family.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the Canadian citizen who passed away in Jamaica,” the statement read.

“Canadian consular officials in Kingston are in contact with local authorities to gather additional information and are providing assistance to the family as required.”
