A subway station being constructed in Vaughan caught on fire Wednesday afternoon.

York Regional Police say no one was injured in the two-alarm blaze on Jane Street at Highway 407.

The fire was quickly put under control.

A rubber conveyer belt that is used to carry debris out of the tunnel caught on fire just after 1:30 p.m.

Black, thick smoke could be seen as far south as Sheppard Avenue and Allen Road.

Jane Street was closed in both directions between Steeles Avenue and Interchange Way to accommodate firefighters and the subsequent investigation. The roadway reopened at around 4 p.m.
