Two people have been rushed to hospital with serious injuries and the province’s Special Investigations Unit has been called in to investigate after a violent incident in Scarborough Sunday evening.

Police responded to a call about a possible domestic incident on the eight floor of an apartment building on Lee Centre Drive near McCowan Road and Hwy. 401 just before 7 p.m., the SIU said in a media release.

Once on the eighth floor, one of the officers fired his gun.

Shortly after, paramedics entered the building and found a 31-year-old man suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest and woman in her 30’s suffering from stab wounds to the neck. Both were rushed to Sunnybrook hospital in serious condition.

Toronto police confirmed to CP24 that the SIU – an arm’s length agency called in whenever police are involved in an incident resulting in a death or serious injury – is now investigating.

The SIU arrived at the scene around 9:30 p.m. along with Toronto police forensics officers.

This is the second time today the unit has been called in to investigate. The SIU was also called in after shots were fired at a car leaving the scene of a shooting outside Muzik Nightclub around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the SIU at 416-641-1866.
