Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating after a naked 30-year-old man suffered an injury to his face in downtown Guelph on Wednesday.

The SIU said Guelph police were called to Macdonell Street in downtown Guelph Wednesday at about 8:30 a.m., to respond to reports of a naked man.

Officers and the man interacted with each other and the man suffered an injury to his face, the SIU said. He was taken to Guelph General Hospital for treatment.

Three investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case. The SIU said they have designated one Guelph police officer as the subject of the investigation, along with four witness officers.

The SIU is called to investigating any incident involving police that leads to death, serious physical injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
