PETERBOROUGH, Ont. -- Ontario's police watch dog is investigating the shooting death of a 23-year-old man in Peterborough.

The Special Investigations Unit says police responded to a disturbance at a Tim Horton's restaurant (at 157 George St. North) at about 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police located a man on Wolfe St. and what the SIU calls an interaction between an officer and the man occurred, resulting in the man being shot.

The SIU says the man, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday in Toronto.

The SIU is automatically called in to review cases involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
