A stretch of subway line will remain closed for the night following a series of issues that began Thursday afternoon, a representative with the Toronto Transit Commission has confirmed.
TTC officials confirmed that Line 2 would remain closed between Keele and Jane stations to allow for continued investigation and repairs.
Full subway service is expected to resume Friday morning at 6 a.m.
The multi-hour shutdown began following a serious of problems that occurred near Runnymede Station beginning at around 5 p.m.
“Crews responded to an electrical problem involving a subway train,” Toronto Fire Services District Chief Mike Harper said Thursday night.
“There was smoke on the platform level, and it permeated up to the mezzanine level.”
The station was evacuated as a result. The train was not in the station at the time, Harper said.
“There was a secondary problem found at track level – this involved some sort of junction box,” he said.
“That posed another problem for crews down there.”
A third situation occurred around 8 p.m., Harper said, when sparking was caused by a train coming through the station.
He could not say for certain if the issues were related.
No injuries have been reported.
