Toronto police are searching for a suspect after a young man was stabbed in the city’s east end early Thursday morning.

Police say that two men in their early 20s were walking on Queen Street East near Broadview Avenue when they were approached by a third man who asked them for a cigarette shortly before 3 a.m.

It is alleged that when the young men refused, the third man stabbed one of them in the arm and ran away.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police believe the attack was unprovoked.

The suspect is described as white, 22 to 29 years old, five-foot-seven to five-foot-11, 140 pounds, with short hair.

He was last seen wearing glasses with light-coloured frames, a white graphic T-shirt, and a black baseball cap.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact police at 416-808-5500 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
