A Mississauga teacher charged with sexual assault in connection with an investigation involving a student had long-term placements at as many as four schools over the last four years, a spokesperson with the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board tells CP24.

The teacher was arrested on Tuesday and charged with a number of offences, including sexual assault, sexual interference, and making sexually explicit material available to a child.

According to Bruce Campbell, with the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, the teacher was a long-term occasional teacher with the board and had been teaching a grade two and three class at St. James Catholic Global Learning Centre.

She had been posted to three other schools for long-term placements – defined as more than 14 days – over the last four years.

Those schools include Bishop Francis Allan School and St. Lucy Catholic Elementary School in Brampton, and Bishop and Saints Martha & Mary Separate School in Mississauga.

Parents at all four schools received letters informing them of the teacher’s arrest and suspension with pay on Tuesday.

“Anybody who has any information they think might be relevant to this, we want them to contact Peel Regional Police,” Campbell said.

News of the arrest came as a shock to parents Thursday.

“It’s very disturbing,” Rosemary Pereira said. “It’s sad for everyone involved.”

“It’s disturbing,” echoed Angela Fortunato.

“I am a parent (of) a child who has disabilities. If that happened to my child, how would he be able to explain himself to me?”

Amanda Perreault, 27, appeared in court on Tuesday and was granted bail.

She is scheduled to appear in court next on June 27 at 9 a.m.
