A third man has been charged in connection with the murder of a Pickering woman whose body was found in the burned remains of her home last year.

Durham Regional Police say the woman, identified as 39-year-old Carmela Knight, was found dead inside the burned-out garage of her home, located on Pebblestone Crescent, on September 15, 2014.

Investigators considered the woman’s death to be suspicious and during a post-mortem exam, it was discovered that Knight's body showed obvious signs of trauma.

In February, David Knight, the victim’s husband, and Graham McDonald were arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with her death.

Police say a Canada-wide warrant was issued in March for a man who previously lived in Ajax. The suspect, Matthew Knight, the brother of the victim’s husband, was recently arrested in Florida and was deported to Canada. Police say he was taken into custody when he arrived at Pearson International Airport on Tuesday night.

He has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder and accessory after the fact to murder.

Anyone with new information about this case is asked to contact Det. Jennings (ext 5223) or Det. Taylor (ext. 5405) of the Major Crime Homicide Unit at 1-888-579-1520.
