A Toronto man was arrested after a woman was stabbed in a home in Oakville early Wednesday morning, Halton Regional Police say.

Police said they responded to a residence on Hixon Street, near the intersection of Rebecca Street and Third Line, at about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers located a 21-year-old Oakville woman who was suffering from a stab wound to her neck. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment and has since been released.

An investigation at the scene of the incident led police to arrest an 18-year-old Toronto man.

Matthew Hudson was charged with one count of aggravated assault.

He was held in custody for a bail hearing in Milton.
