A 48-year-old Toronto man has been charged in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a girl in Port Hope and Toronto over a seven-year period.

According to police, the victim was sexually assaulted in the Highway 2 and Dale Road area in Port Hope and in the Danforth Road and Eglinton Avenue area in Toronto between 2008 and January 2015.

As part of the ongoing investigation, search warrants were executed and computer equipment was seized. Images of children being sexually abused were subsequently found on the computer equipment, police allege.

It is also alleged that between 2008 and 2012, a woman was sexually assaulted in the same area of Port Hope as the child victim.

The suspect lived in the Port Hope are from 2005 to 2012 before moving to Toronto, investigators said. He was employed as a long-haul truck driver, travelling both within Ontario and into the United States as far as Arizona.

Police believe there may be more victims.

A suspect identified as James Simmerson faces 10 charges, including three counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual exploitation, and possession of child pornography.
