Mayor John Tory set a new record for fundraising in last year’s mayoral race.

According to documents filed at Toronto City Hall Friday, Tory’s campaign raised a total of $2,863,205.95 for his mayoral bid last year.

In a news release, Tory’s campaign said he attracted almost 4,350 donors and raised nearly $500,000 through online donations.

Tory was far and away the most successful fundraiser in the race for the mayor’s chair.

His fundraising total puts him nearly two million dollars ahead of the runner up in the race, former councilor Doug Ford, who raised $900,000.

The number also puts him about a million dollars ahead of Olivia Chow, who raised $1.9 million for her run and ended up finishing third in the race.

Friday was the final day for candidates to file their paperwork from the 2014 mayoral race.

Of the allowable $1.349 million limit for candidates, Tory spent $1.322 million. He also spent $1.473 million on fundraising and other costs that were not subject to the spending limit.
