Toronto police are warning motorists about traffic disruptions in and around the city today due to a scheduled protest by the province’s tow truck drivers.

The tow truck industry has planned an "operators day of awareness" at Queen's Park today to protest Bill 15, legislation they say negatively impacts tow truck drivers.

Police say the protest will impact morning and evening rush hour in the city and “excessive delays” could be possible on municipal expressways, as well as arterial and local roads.

The first wave of operators involved in the protest will be proceeding southbound on the Don Valley Parkway, exiting at the Richmond Street East off-ramp, continuing down Richmond Street to University Avenue and parking on Queen’s Park Crescent.

The second wave of protesters will head east on the Gardiner Expressway to the Yonge Street off-ramp and will proceed northbound on University Avenue, arriving at Queen’s Park Crescent at around 9:30 a.m.

The operators, police say, plan to encircle Queen’s Park Crescent with their trucks from around 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Bill 15, the province has said, benefits Ontarians by giving customers the option to pay tow truck drivers by credit card and requiring tow truck operators to provide an itemized list of charges. The goal of the regulations is to help prevent inflated tow costs and unfair practices.

Members of the tow truck industry, however, say the law limits the number of hours operators can work and will only drive up the costs for their services.
