The TTC says it is investigating a report that a dog was struck and killed by a bus in Leaside on Monday morning.

Kristin Gaziuk, who said she witnessed the accident, told CP24 an elderly dog owner was walking her pet in the area of Millwood Road and McRae Drive at around 8:30 a.m. when the animal was struck.

She said the bus driver did not stop to see what had happened and said the dog owner was “hysterical” when she saw her pet had been killed. Gaziuk said she and her boyfriend, who also witnessed the incident, called 911 and the TTC to report the accident.

TTC spokesperson Brad Ross said that the TTC received an anonymous call about the “very sad incident” and staff are looking into it.

He said they have not been able to track down the bus in question but said that operators are instructed to remain on scene when a dog is hit.

Depending on the size of the dog, Ross said it is possible the driver was unaware that they hit the animal.

The Leaside intersection has come under intense scrutiny in recent months after seven-year-old Georgia Walsh was struck and killed at the corner of Millwood and McRae in July.
