No one was injured after two streetcars collided at the intersection of Queens Quay West and Spadina Avenue Saturday afternoon.

TTC spokesperson Sarah Currie said The 510 Spadina and 509 Harbourfront streetcars turned back for about an hour after two streetcars collided. The collision occurred after at least one of the streetcars derailed.

“We supplemented our service with shuttle buses, but it is all clear now,” Currie said.

Toronto Police told CTV News this week that since intersection reopened after construction earlier in June, at least five collisions have occurred, with countless near misses between pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.

Waterfront Toronto, which redesigned the intersection, is exploring the possibility of re-working signage and other signals in the area, to help prevent future collisions.

“Because the intersection is newly opened it will take some time for drivers, pedestrians and transit passengers to get used to the new alignment,” Currie said.

Toronto police is still investigating the collision, and the two streetcars involved have been taken out of service while police examine them. One of the streetcars involved was one of only seven newly-built articulating models the TTC has in service.
