Police continue to investigate following a stabbing outside an Etobicoke school that sent two teens to hospital in serious condition Wednesday afternoon.

It happened at a bus shelter outside Burnhamthorpe Collegiate Institute and Adult Learning Centre, near Burnhamthorpe Road and The East Mall, at around 1 p.m.

According to police, the victims – both males -- sustained stab wounds. One of the victims is 19 years old, the other is 18 years old.

“They are giving us some information,” Toronto police Sgt. Wayne Jackson said in an update Wednesday afternoon.

He was unable to confirm if either of the victims are students at the school.

“It’s a possibility they may be students,” he said.

The school was under a lockdown for a short time as a precaution but has since been lifted. Nearby schools West Glen Junior School and Broadacres Junior School were also briefly placed under a hold and secure order.

Investigators were able to locate a second scene close by using a police dog, Jackson said. He believed that items of clothing were discovered at the other scene.

“We are looking at that scene as possibly where the suspects fled off to,” he said.

Speaking with reporters following the incident, the school’s principal described the institution as a “very caring environment.”

“I haven’t seen any sort of flare-ups or altercations at all in this school,” Patrick Knight, who started working at the school earlier this month, told reporters.

“The students select this school – it’s their choice to come here. These are students who have decided to create a second chance for themselves, and the TDSB has afforded them that opportunity to be successful,” he said.

Jackson said that police continue to search for two outstanding suspects. He was not able to immediately provide a description of either suspect.

“There is camera footage here that we are looking through right now,” he said.

Police continue to investigate.
