The brother of a 28-year-old woman who was randomly stabbed to death by a stranger at a drugstore in the city’s PATH system says his sister was a “loving, caring” person who had recently gotten married and was hoping to soon start a family.

According to police, Rosemarie Junor was pronounced dead on Wednesday night, five days after she was critically wounded in a stabbing that police have called a “random” and “unprovoked” attack.

The stabbing occurred on the afternoon on Dec. 11 at a Wellington Street Shoppers Drug Mart in the underground PATH system. Police said Junor, who is known as “Kim” by her friends and family, was gravely injured after being stabbed multiple times.

She was taken to hospital but later died from her injuries.

Following the release of security camera images, the suspect was later identified as Rohinie Bisesar, 40.

Bisesar was arrested and initially charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, and carrying a concealed weapon but police said Thursday the charges would be upgraded to second-degree murder in light of Junor’s death.

Speaking to CTV News Thursday, Junor’s brother Richard said his family has been devastated by the loss of his sister, who he described as “energetic,” “outspoken,” and “very bright.”

“It’s just hard to deal with. But we are coping with it. We are a very strong family. We will bond together and we’ll get through this,” Richard Junor said.

He added that he does not know if his sister was acquainted with Bisesar.

Bisesar’s lawyer Calvin Barry told reporters Wednesday that the allegations are out of character for his client, who he said has an MBA and an “impressive resume.”

Barry said Bisesar has no prior criminal record and he intends to request bail with a series of conditions that will ensure the public is protected and that she will return to court.

In a statement sent to CTV News Thursday, Junor’s colleagues said they were shocked and saddened by the “senseless tragedy.”

“Our organization is like a big family and we are all grieving today for this loss," the statement from Medcan Clinic’s CEO said.

"Rosemarie was just such a vibrant, happy and glowing person. She had so many good friends here, and was such a positive force here, and we are all just devastated. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.”
