A five-year-old girl is in stable condition in hospital after being shot while inside her home near Lawrence Avenue and Weston Road on Thursday night, according to Emergency Medical Services officials.

The girl was inside at 5 Bellevue Cres. when a bullet pierced the window and struck her.

Emergency Medical Services officials say her parents first took her to Humber Regional Hospital before she was transported by ambulance to Sick Kids Hospital. Her injury is not considered life-threatening.

One male is in custody and police say they aren't looking for any more suspects.

Police have some witnesses but are interesting in speaking to anyone else who saw what happened.

They have been searching the area with the canine and marine unit and have cordoned off a section along the nearby Humber River.
