A 17-year-old boy is facing weapons charges after a fight broke out between two groups of youths at a Brampton high school on Friday afternoon.

Peel police say the altercation started at about 3:15 p.m. in the parking lot of Sandalwood Heights Secondary School on 2671 Sandalwood Pkwy. E. near Airport Road and Bovaird Drive.

Peel police Const. J.P. Valade says many of the youths were carrying baseball bats, cricket bats, metal sticks and pipes. Several vehicles were damaged before school officials were able to break up the fight.

A black Honda with two people fled the scene and was pursued by a gold Honda, which had four occupants. Police say a passenger in the black Honda allegedly pointed a firearm at the other vehicle and fired several times. No one was injured.

The occupants of the gold Honda called police and investigators were able to track the owner of the Black Honda to a residence in Brampton.

Valade says the 17-year-old driver of the vehicle has been charged with firearm related offences including assault with a weapon and dangerous weapons charges.

Police say they are still looking for the shooter. No descriptions of the suspect have been released.

Investigators have not confirmed whether the youths involved in the incident are students of the high school.

Anyone with information is asked to call Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
