A man driving along a Burlington highway tried to pull a fast one as he cruised down the carpool lane.

The High Occupance Vehicle (HOV) lane is meant for drivers with two or more people in their cars but one man decided to try his luck by putting a mannequin in the front seat next to him.

Police say it was another driver who noticed the female blow-up doll, dressed in a jacket and cap, sitting in the front seat at around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Officers located the SUV, which was heading east near Dorval Drive in Oakville, and confirmed the man was in fact the only "live" person in the car.

The driver now faces two charges relating to the improper use of the HOV lanes.

Police kept the mannequin as evidence but returned the cap and jacket to the driver.
