Memories

May 1940 – I am 6 years old. Bombs are falling all around me in the Dieppe harbour. I am in my father's arms as his ship, the S.S.BRIGHTON, jumps out of the water.

My father is singing songs to try and calm me.

The harbour is on fire, chaos reigns, the ship has to be evacuated, I wave good bye to him unaware that I would not see him again for five years.

The next day we join the line of refugees fleeing from the advancing German army, we are strafed by low-flying planes, I watch a city go up in flames...

That incredibly eventful month of May 1940 was only the beginning! That little girl who is now 78 years old!
