It may soon be possible to place a bet on the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Toronto Raptors or any of your other favourite teams.

A private member's bill that would legalize single-game sports betting in Canada passed third reading on Parliament Hill today and now just needs to be approved by the Senate to become law.

Originally brought forward by Windsor NDP MP Joe Comartin Bill C-290 would see Canada join Nevada as the only jurisdictions in North America to have legalized single-game sports betting.

It would also likely open the door to sports books being placed in casinos from coast to coast.

Current laws in Ontario require that gamblers bet on at least three games each time they play the Proline sports lottery.
